ADAM & EVE

By Calvin Rezen

I was Adam. I was unprepared

We were children. We were running scared.

We had lots of business left to share

You were Eve. You had no clothes to wear.

We both played games, we both play fair and square

When neither won we both just stopped and stared

If there’s no winning, there’s no sinning. no beginning

so we’ll spin through space alone

Our children’s children

would be inbred anyway

And who are we, Eve and me, damning man to mediocrity

Our children’s children’s children

won’t be happy anyway

They’ll be confused, and abused

They’ll be buried with their brains all brunt and bruised

We’re just two animals who weren’t built to chase

So lets not run the human race

Cause though we’ve got the parts to procreate

I think we’re both too smart to take the bait

I’ve always loved you like a sister, not a mate

So holy destiny and sacred fate

we turned them in for more important traits

and on the eighth day we refined our primal state

Let’s not pretend. We’ll just be friends. That’s where it ends so we’ll spend our time then go

Our children’s children

would be inbred anyway

And who are we, Eve and me, damning man to mediocrity

Our children’s children’s children

won’t be happy anyway

They’ll be confused, unamused

They’ll be buried with their brains so underused

We’re just two animals who weren’t built to chase

So lets not run the human race

We’re flawed and fucked and out of luck

We falter at the base

Our legs to frail to keep the pace

So let’s not start…
